General Summer Equipment and Clothing List for All Activities

Welcome to our equipment page! It is a long list, but don’t be overwhelmed by it; a lot of what you see here you may already have, and friends can often lend you what you don’t have. We are very good at rustling up gear for our guests as well, so contact us if you have questions or requests, and we will work together to get you gear-ready for your upcoming adventure. * Please make sure that all your gear is in good working order *

Climbing Equipment:

  • UIAA-approved helmet
  • Harness
  • Locking Munter biner
  • Belay device
  • Rock shoes (comfortable for all-day use)
  • Light-weight hiking boot or mountaineering boot (kletterschuhe)
  • Pack large enough to comfortably fit all gear
  • Water bottle
  • Head lamp
  • Collapsible hiking poles

Camping Equipment:

  • Four-season sleeping bag (-10 degrees Celsius recommended)
  • Thermarest
  • Four-season tent (three-man is good for groups)
  • Spare batteries
  • Toiletries (scent-free is best)
  • Camp booties (nice to have)
  • pack large enough to fit personal gear plus some group gear
  • Toilet paper and individual lighter

Clothing and Accessories:

  • Anorak (windproof and water resistant)
  • Rain pants (lightweight, waterproof and breathable)
  • Down vest or jacket (nice to have)
  • Gaiters
  • Warm inner layer (lightweight fleece, preferably with Windstopper)
  • Socks (warm!)
  • Long underwear (depending on your circulation)
  • Climbing pants - Guide pants, shirt - long-sleeved(preferably not cotton),UV protection
  • Shorts
  • Gloves or mitts: one light pair, one heavier pair
  • Wool hat or toque
  • Baseball or sun hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Camera
  • Blister kit (moleskin, Elastoplast on roll, 2nd skin, etc.)

Summer Expeditions Climbing and Mountaineering:

  • Pack large enough to carry personal gear plus some group gear
  • Crampons and crampon bag
  • Mountaineering boots that fit your crampons (please check proper fit before arriving)
  • Repair kit for the crampons
  • Ice axe 70 cm (not long ones)
  • 1-7mm 5 meter prusik cord
  • 2 locking biners
  • 2 non-locking biners
  • Alpine harness and chest harness

Summer Mountaineering Courses:

  • Ice axe 70 cm (not long ones)
  • 3 Munter locking carabiners
  • 3 non-locking carabiners, two that are the same
  • 1 double-length sling
  • 2 -7mm 5 meter prusik cord
  • Ice screw
  • Crampons and crampon bag
  • Mountaineering boots that fit your crampons(please check proper fit before arriving)
  • UIAA-approved helmet
  • Alpine harness and chest harness
  • Pack large enough to carry personal gear plus some group gear
  • Compass with inclinometer and declination settings (we recommend Silva Ranger)
  • Altimeter
  • Rite in the Rain All-Weather Notebook #311
  • Pencil
  • Pocket knife

Back Packing Trips:

  • Good hiking boots (mandatory - good ankle support and good platform is vital)
  • Collapsible poles, umbrella
  • Pack large enough to fit personal gear plus sleeping gear
  • Large industrial-sized garbage bag to protect pack contents
  • Extra gear to be kept aside for staff to put in caches along the way (change of socks and underwear) Leave out on morning of departure.

Heli Hiking and Photo Courses:

  • Small day pack
  • Light hiking boots
  • Collapsible hiking poles
  • Baseball or sun hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Camera (for photo course – small tripod)
  • Blister kit (moleskin, Elastoplast on roll, 2nd skin, etc.)
  • Anorak (windproof and water resistant)
  • Rain pants (lightweight, waterproof and breathable)
  • Suitable hiking wear for all weather conditions (includes under layers with wicking properties – lightweight for summer)
